Candice's Story
Candice Kaup, M.S., IHP1, owner and chief medical advocate and consultant, exercise therapist, and integrative health practitioner (IHP1) at On The Move, has always been passionate about two things: exercise and helping people understand how to get healthy.
Candice's personal love for fitness, coupled with her desire to encourage others to take care of their own health, led Candice to seek her Masters Degree in Exercise, Fitness and Health Promotion at George Mason University. Candice graduated Summa Cum Laude, was awarded two fellowships from the College of Education and Human Development, earned the Outstanding Masters Graduate Award, and was selected for the Oxford University Fall Program. During her graduate program, Candice's areas of concentration included pregnancy and exercise, advanced nutrition, physiological components of exercise, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal assessment, exercise physiology, sports psychology, pharmacology, and human lifespan development.
While studying at George Mason University, and raising her infant twins, Candice founded On The Move to formalize her commitment to educating others about how they could use exercise as a tool to becoming mentally and physically healthy. Initially, Candice taught a variety of exercise classes and worked privately with clients doing in-person personal training. She helped them get "on the move" to a healthier lifestyle.
This soon evolved into much more, when Candice began supporting a client who was battling cancer. This client would come to her training sessions with limited energy, discouraged by her doctors' mindsets, comments, and template approach to handling her health situation. Both Candice and the client knew there had to be other options. So, the client hired Candice to perform research, utilize her medical connections, devise talking points for medical appointments, and become her advocate. Candice helped her navigate the system and "figure it out." Since then, Candice has helped countless clients identify and dissect problems and formulate viable courses of action.
Recently, Candice decided to continue expanding her knowledge and services by becoming a Level 1 certified integrative health practitioner (IHP1) through the Integrative Health Practitioner Institute. This step was prompted by countless years of taking comprehensive approaches with her clients, coupled with her personal battle with grief and post-operative knee-related complications. Candice refused to let these obstacles overtake her, so she sought acupuncture treatment in Washington, DC from Dr. Amy Lewis. Not only did Dr. Lewis help Candice regain 100% of her physical mobility, but she opened a door into a world of curiosity about traditional Chinese medicine and its countless benefits.
Candice now best defines her service concentrations as "Advocacy, Fitness, and Holistic Health." Candice is 100% dedicated to every single client; no matter what the needs, goals, questions, and limitations may be.
